True or Falsies #7 - Thickness, Schmickness!!

Does shaving make hair grow back thicker or is this another one of those rumors passed around?

********** FALSE **********

I know it may seem like it, but it’s not the case. Hair growth is actually controlled by hair follicles found just underneath the skin of which are not affected by shaving in any way. It’s all about perception, ladies and gentlemen! When you shave, you're cutting hair off at its largest diameter. What you’re left with is the blunt end, which often times feels coarser and thicker. The stubble feels stiffer because it's short and cut straight across and is exposing the thicker part of the shaft.

You’ll notice that as the hair gets longer - it feels softer. Somehow, I’m thinking that the long hairy look isn’t what you are going for! Waxing is a good option as it makes the skin smoother and the hairs will lessen over time. You may want to start thinking about laser hair removal if you have curly hair or hair that's prone to becoming ingrown from shaving, Laser hair removal generally works best on people with light skin and dark hair.
